Visual Art Class Descriptions
In Art 1 and Art 2, students will learn how to see with the eyes of an artist, how to see the world differently. Students will experiment with two-dimensional art forms, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and three-dimensional art building such as clay, paper mache, wood, and metal. There will be a heavy focus on Drawing, Art History and the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. This course is designed to prepare them with the skills and knowledge they will need if they wish to pursue Art in high school. This course is open to all students who would like to participate in a fun and creative atmosphere where they can let their individuality and creativity shine.
Students interested in Art 3 will be involved in creating the set pieces for the school performances. This includes designing, preparing, and painting the stage backdrops (flats) and creating props for all the performances, with the possibility for collaboration with the other arts department in different aspects of production design.
Art Class Materials
9"x12" Drawing Pad
I suggest a spiral Drawing Pad, as it will be easier to use. Please ensure the pad has white paper, not cream colored. Drawing Pads I recommend are: Strathmore Drawing 300 Series, Canson Pure White Drawing Pad, and or Artist’s Loft Drawing Pad.
**Paper thickness (weight) should be around 130g/m2 or higher.
Folder
All students should have a folder for Art that can be used to hold various handouts throughout the course.
HB #2 Pencils
I will have pencils in the classroom, but I have found that students prefer having their own set. My recommendation for HB #2 Pencils are Ticonderoga. If you decide to get a set of drawing/sketching pencils; Faber-Castell, Staedtler Mars, and Generals are all good brands.
